Presented by Eileen Shanahan
Ms. Shanahan will trace the history of the Moravian Church (Kings Highway, Woolwich Township, NJ) from its inception in 1743 when the church membership was established. Learn about the first meeting house, made of logs, and the eventual replacement in 1786 of the Georgian-style meeting house that still stands today. Shanahan will trace the occupation by Moravians and Episcopalians and detail the involvement of GCHS in the church since its stewardship began in 1948.
As stewards of this New Jersey State and National Register recognized Historic Site, GCHS is currently working to preserve the 1-1/2 acre site, including the cemetery, through donations, grants and corporate sponsorship. We welcome any and all donations towards the work on the Moravian Church.
Eileen Shanahan was born and raised in Bethlehem, PA (founded by Moravians in 1741) and graduated from Moravian College. She's always had an interest in the history of her "little town of Bethlehem." She's served on the Board of Trustees at GCHS for many years and is the current Education Committee Chair.
GCHS is a non-profit 501(c)3. Donations are gratefully received at https://gchsnj.org/about-us/donations/
